limerick poem

Around the corner there's a frog
That likes to sit on lots of logs
I think there is something wrong
The string is very long
We need to find a very good dog

Every Christmas we go to mass
It's a time to give and be happy
We all eat tasty food
Spend time with family
We can be kind and help each other

Visual Arts

In Term 2 our Visual Arts focused was on Mixed Media. We finally finished our pieces of art at the end of the term. We started off by creating two hands, most of us copied our own hands as templates.  One hand represents our past and the other hand our future. We used lots of different materials and symbols to make our artwork as well as exploring a range of different techniques with watercolor paint. This is my art work.

St Mary Mackillop Feast day

Another celebration for Good Shepherd School in Week 3 was the Feast Day of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop. St Mary MacKillop a vital part of Good Shepherd School, this is because she was the founder of the Josephites aka the Brown Joes. The Brown Joes traveled all over Australia and New Zealand helping the poor and those in need. They built schools and that is how we are all students at Good Shepherd School. We celebrated the Feast day by going to a Mass for St Mary of the Cross and also having fun with our buddy class Room 4 as we worked on a St Mary MacKillop Art project.

Whole School Prayers

On Monday the 5th of August Room 6 hosted whole school prayers. Our theme was The Gift of Faith. We did a song called ‘Open the Eyes of My Heart’ and Jiwoo, Zara and Maggie made hand actions for us. There were also people who did the prayers of the faithful. Overall prayers was a big success and everyone enjoyed it.

Cook Island Language Week

We learnt Aro'a mai te Atua iaku. See if you can say/sing this pure too

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku.

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku

I te au mea taku kite nei

Te anuanua kua iti mai ki roto iaku

Aro’a mai te Atua iaku

My God loves me

My God loves me

And all the wonders I see

The rainbow shines through my window

My God loves me

Water Cycle

How the Water Cycle Works.
I am learning to inform my audience through an explanation

By Aidan

What liquid has been on earth since the dinosaurs roamed and every human needs to survive? Yes, water. Did you know that three quarters of the earth is covered in water and from all that water 97 percent is salt water. That leaves only 3 percent of our water to be freshwater and only 1 percent is actually drinkable. But the water we have now, is the only water we have ever had. How is that possible, you may ask, well that’s because of the water cycle. The water cycle has three main stages. Evaporation, condensation and precipitation. These three stages make the water cycle possible and keep us alive. The first step of this of this interesting cycle is evaporation.

Evaporation is the first step of the water cycle. After it rains there are water puddles on the ground and water has fallen into lakes and streams. But after some time the puddles are gone and the ground is dry again. This is because the heat from the sun has heated the water, turning the water into steam and eventually into water vapor. Water vapor is the water from the ground, lakes and the ocean evaporating into the air. If you look at a boiling kettle you will be able to see the water turning into water vapor. At this moment, the atoms in the water get crazy and move super fast. This is because of the heat in the kettle boiling the water. When you see the water vapor disappearing it means that it is turning into gas. This is an example of evaporation. When the water rises, it leads us into condensation.

The process of condensation is when the gas forms together and makes clouds. The water vapor get cooler in the atmosphere and the vapor start turning into tiny water droplets again. The droplets reconnect and appear in the form of clouds. It's like when you take a hot shower. The vapor rising and water droplets collecting on the ceiling. When condensation happens, the gas in the clouds are cooling down. Then the water starts turning into a liquid again. The clouds then lead us into precipitation.

The third step of this interesting cycle is precipitation. When the gas cools down in the clouds the water changes back into a liquid, producing rains. Other possible forms of precipitation are snow, sleet and hail. If you get a see thru cup with boiling water and glad wrap with some ice on top you just might see rain in the cup. This is a good example of precipitation. When it rains the soil and streams collects the water which makes groundwater.

This is a complex but very easy cycle to understand. It starts when the water heats up through evaporation and forms clouds which lead to condensation and precipitation. If one of the stages are removed, there would be no water for us to drink and to use for our plants. Without water we would be in a lot of trouble. So it is important to not waste our water.

Watercare

Water, water everywhere! On Friday of week 6, we were lucky to have Sally from Watercare come to teach us more about the water. We did a drama activity and experiments. Firstly we examined the process that water goes through to become drinkable water in our households. Our drama was based on the process that the water to be cleaned. We were the water going through each stage. We had so much fun as we ventured around the school. Once we learnt how water is cleaned we then had to try and clean the dirty water ourselves. We had to create a filter system in partners. We had to do four different tests for our experiments. We experimented with a range of filters to try and test which filter system was the best.

My Accident Story

The Accident Known as the Broken Arm

February 2019

Aidan

I am learning to entertain my audience through a recount.

The moment that this accident had occurred, I was six years old and I had a very clumsy brain. I tried to keep my clumsy brain hidden as I never wanted to show it, until one day I did show that strange brain of mine. This is how it all started.

It was a typical Saturday evening, my friend Jack and I were bouncing on his trampoline, with no NET! Yes, that’s right the trampoline was netless. When suddenly his sister came out with a ball. Of course Jack and I wanted to have a turn of the ball. He jumped off the edge, over the bar. I watched and trust me he looked like a boss when he did it. He got the ball, I thought to myself that looked easy and because I had done it before I knew I could do it. I also wanted to look like a boss too, but that didn’t end up being the case.

I raced to the edge bar, jumped … at this point I was thinking I was fine, but I wasn’t fine. I fall down to the death of my arm, without me noticing sadly. Suddenly SMACK! My arm hit the ground and my eyes bursted in tears of sadness. I was lying on the ground as Jack’s mum came out. I got on a chair and sat down suddenly his mum came to rescue me with... an ice pack while she put on a movie to calm me down.

In the middle of the night I couldn’t sleep, my arm was so uncomfortable! When I got home I told my mum, that my arm felt really weird. I had to waited four whole days till I went to the doctors. I got an x-ray and found out I had broken my arm. I couldn’t get a cast because i had broken my arm near my shoulder so I got a sling. Weirdly when I got to school people started asking me how i sprained arm. There was a lot of storytelling to tell to lots of people but I survived. In the end all i can say is that I didn’t look like a boss.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday

Today was Ash Wednesday. We went to church and sang some hymns, got the ashes on our foreheads, sung happy birthday to a little girl starting school on her birthday! We then went up and got a blessing.

We did make an attempt to keep our ashes on our foreheads, but that was a fail due to swimming and itching it off. We had a good day and hope everyone else did to. During the lent season we have to remember to pray, almsgiving and helping others. else did to. During the lent season we have to remember to pray, almsgiving and helping others.
This year I am focusing on Helping out around the house more

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday

Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday. We all had a great day in room 6. The festivities started with the burning of the ashes on the turf. This was a new and exciting experience that not many of us had seen before.

Later on during Religious Education we learnt more about Shrove Tuesday and Lent. People used to get rid of all their luxury items such as flour, sugar, butter, eggs and milk by making pancakes. We were even able to enjoy some pancakes of our own. We all thought it was a great start to lent and we are looking forward to the lenten season as we prepare for the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are the season of Lent and it is a time of preparation.

Swimming sports

Swimming sports

Room 6 had a wonderful day at swimming sports. When we all went to the turf we split up into our houses. Thank you Sharyn and parents for helping us with the non competitive swimming and competitive. Also thank you parents for coming along and supporting your children. Good shepherd students thank the teachers very warmly, as every year as they set up and prepare this event for us. I’m sure that every student enjoyed the event. I saw everyone compete with my own eyes and they all did well. The people who lost don’t have to be sad because they should be grateful they got a swim in the warm weather also because there’s always time and effort to improve.
